In a unique setting on Marsden Bay, at the foot of the cliffs, the Marsden Grotto is the only restaurant and bar set in a cave in Europe. It is a hugely popular restaurant and friendly bar and offers some fantastic views of the coast.

The Grotto is located on the Coast Road (A183), close to South Shields and Whitburn, next to the popular Souter Lighthouse and the Leas, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Public Transport Directions

During the summer a CitySightseeing service operates around South Tyneside past the Marsden Grotto. A hail and ride service operates on this service.

Alternatively the Grotto can reached by taking the E1 from South Shields Bus Station. The E1 operates three times an hour between South Shields and Sunderland.
