Three acres of themed garden includes formal topiary, herbaceous borders, gravel garden, Bowes Railway garden, wild flower meadow, wildlife pond, meditation garden, winter garden and beachcombers garden. All designed by Christine Liddle as a visitor attraction with magnificent views over open countryside. There is also a well stocked plant nursery, with tea garden and coffee shop.

Approach Sunniside on A692. Turn right onto A6076 at the 'Potters Wheel' public house traffic lights. Once past, Tanfield Railway take the first left passing Hedley Grange and Hedley Hall woodland trust. Birkheads secret gardens are 1/2 mile further on the left.
Buses every half hour.
Weekdays and Saturdays the x30 and x31 from Newcastle, Gateshead and Stanley stop at the Tanfield Railway 1km along Bowes Railway path. Turn right onto Birkheads Lane past cottages. Garden entrance is 80 metres on right.
