Martineau House is named after Harriet Martineau, acclaimed novelist, political economist and England's first female journalist, who convalesced here between 1840-1845.
Recently restored and refurbished as the 'new' guesthouse at Tynemouth, Martineau Guesthouse offers luxury en suite accommodation in an attractive 18thC Georgian townhouse.
With stunning panoramic views of Tynemouth Priory and the mouth of the River Tyne to the rear and front views of the picturesque Tynemouth village, Martineau Guesthouse is situated at the heart of this historic village.
At breakfast guests can enjoy a taste of traditional Northumbrian dishes, including North Shields kippers, home-made fish cakes, potato scones, porridge and English breakfast.
A healthy range of fruit, cereals and yogurts is always available. For evening meals guests can frequent one of the many restaurants and pubs in Tynemouth, all of which are within walking distance.
Conveniently located for local transport, Martineau Guesthouse is an ideal base for exploring the coastline and countryside of Northumbria, or the shopping opportunities of Newcastle's Eldon Square and Gateshead's famous Metro Centre. Tynemouth itself has a range of local craft and coffee shops. A five-minute walk will take you to the antiques curios at Tynemouth Metro Station or the Land of the Green Ginger.
All rooms are en suite with colour TV, tea and coffee facilities, fridge and hair dryer.
