Bus services throughout the region are frequent and plentiful and there are a wide variety of special travel tickets available including a Day Rover for unlimited travel by any form of public transport in Tyne & Wear, while the North East Explorer ticket can be used on public transport right across the North East region. Buy one on the day from bus drivers or in advance from Travelshops.
You may also want to use the Quaylink bus which connects Newcastle city centre and Gateshead Interchange with the Quayside. Look out for these bright yellow buses which operate approximately every 10 minutes, 7 days per week.
The Shields Ferry offers a fast and convenient way to cross the Tyne (crossings run frequently and take around 7 minutes). Did you know there has been a ferry service across the Tyne between North and South Shields since the 14th century, although you can rest assured the boats themselves are not that old!
